Born and raised in Cardiff, Rakie has Nigerian and Sierra Leonean heritage. She can neutralise her natural subtle Welsh accent.
In 2023 Rakie won the prestigious BAFTA Cymru Sian Phillips Award for services to television. At the same ceremony she received the BAFTA Cymru Best Actress Award for season two of The Pact, which she also exec produced. In 2021 she won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Gee Walker in the BBC drama Anthony.
